Spelling Free Choice Activities
Below is a list of activities for your spelling words. Select activities to earn your points for your grade. You have all week to earn your points. Free Choice activities are due Friday morning.
A= 90-100 points, B= 80-89 points, C= 70-79 points, D= 60-69 points, F= fewer than 60 points

**Be creative…come up with your own activity for your spelling words. The point value will be determined based on the complexity of the activity. I give 10 points for easy activities and 100 points for complex.)

5 point Activities
- Go onto the Spelling City Website. Enter your spelling words. Play some of the games. Record your scores for each game you play. (5 points per game)
- Spell your words out loud correctly to someone have them write a note to say you completed the activity.
- Hold two different colored markers, crayons, or pens in your hand. Copy the words in your best handwriting.
- Make flash cards to help you study.
- Design a pretty bookmark on thick paper. Write your list on the bookmark.
- Pair up with a friend. Give each other a practice test. Be sure to grade it!
- Find another student that also made flash cards. Combine your cards to play "Go Fish."
- Write all your words in cursive.
- Write your words end to end using a different color for each word. It should be one long word with no spaces. You can write it in a spiral as well.
20 point activities
- Type your list of words on the computer. Change each vowel to a different color. Print your list.
- Type all your words on the Anagram Fun Site. Record the anagrams that you receive.
- Scramble all you words. Give them to a friend to unscramble.
- Write your letters in glue on heavy paper. Sprinkle Jell-O over the words. Your Spelling has never smelled so good!
- Tape record your self saying and spelling your words.
- Use label maker to make labels with your spelling words.
- Create 2 sets of your spelling words on cards. Use the cards to play concentration.
- Use watercolors or another kind of paint and paint your spelling words on paper.
- Spell your words as you bounce up and down on the ground, on a trampoline, on a pogo stick, or in the pool. Take a digital photo.
- Write your words in sidewalk chalk. Take a digital photo.
- Paint your words with water and a paint brush on the sidewalk or street. Take a digital photo.
- Spell your words as you jump rope. Jump in and out as you say the word. Take a digital photo.
- Use stencils to spell out your spelling words.
- Type your spelling words. Put each word in a different font, color, or size.
- Bounce or kick a ball as you spell out each spelling word. Say the word as you shoot a basket or shoot a goal. Take a digital picture to show the fun.
- Write your word in the sand or dirt and take a digital photo of your result.
- Write your words with shaving cream and take a digital photo of your result
25 point activities
- Make an acrostic with your words. Write each word up and down on your paper, one letter to a line. Find words that begin with each letter. For example: b = butterfly e = eggplant
- Write the words in reverse ABC order.
- Make a word search puzzle on graph paper. Be sure to include all of your words. Give it to a friend to solve.
- Write your words in shapes. Put all the shapes together to make a picture.
- Use alphabet cereal or pasta letters to glue your words on heavy paper.
- Classify the words according to parts of speech. Record your classification in a table.
- Write your words in syllables.
- Write your words with shaving cream and take a digital photo of your result.
- Write each spelling word, then write an antonym for each spelling word
- Write each spelling word, and then write a synonym for each spelling word.
- Write your spelling words and add prefixes or suffixes to change each word at least two ways.
- Write your spelling words and the write a rhyming word for each word.
- Write your words and circle all the vowels in one color and the consonants in another.
- Rainbow write your spelling words. Pick 6 different colors. Write each word over in a different color to make a rainbow word.
50 point activities
- Make a mobile from a coat hanger and pretty paper. Include all of your Spelling words.
- Make a crossword puzzle using your Spelling words. Be sure to include clues.
- Write the alphabet on a piece of paper. Under A, write $1.00. Under B, write $2.00, and so on. Figure up the dollar amount of each of your Spelling words.
- Make up a code. Write your words in your code. Give it to a friend to solve.
- Draw a picture then label your spelling words in the picture. Use at least half of the list words.
- Use modeling clay to create a 3-D word sculpture.
- Use alphabet stamps and colored ink to spell out your spelling words.
- Use a thesaurus and write two other words that mean the same as each spelling word.
- Write each word 10 times each.
- Draw and color a picture. Hide the words in the picture.
- Write a set of rules for remembering how to spell the words. Group the words by your rules.
75 point activities
- Use all your words to write a letter to Superman or another super hero.
- Design a Spelling game to play with your friends. It can be a board game, a card game, a guessing game, or some other idea.
- Cut letters out of magazines and newspapers to spell your words.
- Write a poem using more than half of your words.
- Write spelling sentences for each word.
- Write your own definitions for each word.
- Make flash cards with the word on one side and the definition on the other side. Quiz a friend.
100 point activities
- Make up a rap or song using all of your Spelling words! Perform it for the class!
- Write a short story using all your spelling words. Underline or circle the spelling words. Use half your words for 50 points.
- Create a newspaper and use your spelling words in the articles, ads, comics, or any other part you decide to include in your newspaper.
- Create a commercial advertising a product for kids. Use more than half your spelling words in your ad. Video tape or act out the ad for the class.
- Create a comic strip and use at least half of your spelling words in the comic.
- Create a jingle or fun way to remember how to spell your words. Video tape or perform it for the class.
